Overview

Due to its unique morphological structure, the natural amphitheatre of Funchal Bay is an excellent venue for viewing one of the world’s best New Year’s fireworks displays from the sea.

Besides New Year, the Atlantic Festival in June includes piromusical shows that are held on Saturdays in the Funchal Bay. Three companies specializing in fireworks displays, from different countries, compete for a trophy awarded by public vote. Year by year this innovative event has become increasingly popular.
