Pico do Arieiro
We will arrive at Pico Do Arieiro in the beautiful brightness of the morning.

It is popular for being the path in Madeira with the most breathtaking views because of the weather diversity along the hike. You will feel that you walk “above the clouds” and on the challenging path you will find a few tunnel-walks and the famous “stairs to heaven”.

3 hours • Admission Ticket Free

Pico Ruivo
Pico Ruivo, with 1862 meters of altitude is the highest mountain in Madeira Island, it is also the third highest mountain in all Portugal. To access the peak you must arrive walking. The absolute best way is from Pico do Arieiro (the 3rd highest mountain on the island with 1810 meters of altitude).

This hike from Pico Do Arieiro To Pico Ruivo To Achada Do Teixeira is 11 km long (4:30 hours in total). Level: Medium-Hard.

2 hours • Admission Ticket Free

At the end of the hike, in the drive from Achada Do Teixeira to Funchal/Caniço, we will pass by without stopping in front of the triangle Santana houses.

Pico do Arieiro - Madeira

Saw this company online - this is a great way to do the trail without a guide. Cheaper than a guided tour and gives you more freedom to enjoy the trail at your pace. Picked up and dropped off at hotel on time - the driver was lovely and really helpful - the vehicle was comfortable and had air con. The driver gave lots of useful information and we had a great day and a fantastic experience with no worries - thank you Pico travel and especially our driver on the day ( black Renault on 16 Sept) . Price was extremely good for the service we got. Thanks again Mike and Alison
This is the way to do the climb

We nearly booked a guided version of this tour thinking the route was going to be too difficult solo, but in the end we're very glad we went without a guide as it was easy to follow. Even if you're renting a car, this is the way to do the climb, as the pick up point is only about 40 mins-1 hour walk from the peak, as opposed to going all the way back to Pico do Areeiro which would take several more hours when you'll likely be exhausted.

We're fairly experienced and fit hikers but found the hike a bit difficult. You definitely need plenty of water and a torch/flashlight will come in handy if your phone doesn't have one (for the tunnels along the way). I would wear sporty clothes as it's still pretty hot up there (at least in September) and you'll easily work up a sweat.

Be prepared for rude walkers along the way who won't give way to you or tuck shoulders in when they probably should have. This can the biggest danger at times, but it's no fault of the tour of course.

Diogo was a friendly driver and passing through Satana at the end was a nice bonus.
Simply amazing!!!

Thank you very much for this amazing experience! Very professional and punctual staff, super friendly guide - we learned a lot of interesting facts about Madeira during the car transfer service.
Also, the hike was well presented - we had enough time to finish the hike at our own pace and enjoy a beer until the pick-up time. Everything was perfect. Totally recommended this activity! ❤️
Great experience and well organized

Great experience! Our driver Diogo was a very good guide and gave us a lot of extra information about Madeira. The trip was very well organized. Would highly recommend!
Excellent service - great way to do the PR1 hike

The PR1 hike is amazing, and if you are reasonably fit - probably not too hard. Unfortunately we had only just recovered from Covid, so it was quite hard work for us!

Pico Transfers service was spot on. Clear communication - pick up from the hotel was on time. Friendly drivers. Couldn't ask for more. Not doing the hike on a tour was definitely our preference - and doing the hike one way is definitely the way to go - I doubt out and back would add much.

We're talking about doing this again next year if we're a bit fitter, as we would like to take this hike in properly. If we do that - we will definitely be using Pico Transfers again.
