During your visit to Madeira, it is almost mandatory to take a sea tour to observe cetaceans. Its excellent location allows you to see these species throughout the year.
Take a close look at some of the 28 species of cetaceans that inhabit or visit the waters of the Madeira Archipelago. On our boat trips, it is very common to find:

The Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis)
The Painted Dolphin (Stenella frontalis)
The Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truincatu)
The Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus)
The Pilot Whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus)
Bryde's Whale (Balaenoptera edeni).
In the turtle family, the Boba Turtle (Caretta caretta) is the most sighted.

Come and observe these friendly cetaceans and make your trip a truly unforgettable experience!

I would like to thank the team of SeaEmotions for helping us book a late whale watching, and this way, we could see the fin whales in the area! This evening opportunity was way better than the first time we went with the same company during the day. The sea was calm and there were hardly any other boats. Marine wildlife was also so calm - I saw a loggerhead sea turtle just after we left the harbour, and very quickly we found the two fin whales too. They are majestic... The moment you hear them surface and realise their size is something you will surely remember. I was also very grateful for our fellow travelers, as they were respectful and fell silent for long periods when we observed the whales and later the pilot whales. Pilot whales were also fantastic - I have seen them before but never during hunting and socializing! We could even hear their diverse voices! We also met many Atlantic spotted dolphins who are always very fun to watch as they come really close to the boats. Right before returning to the harbour, we met the same fin whales once again. It was amazing, thank you!
Fantastic experience

I treated my six year old daughter for her first dolphin & whale watching experience. It began in a private marina surrounded by a picturesque setting (Quinta Do Lorde) and after a safety briefing and an explanation of the type of whale/dolphins we may encounter, we set off. Within 10 minutes of venturing out we came across a pod of dolphins leaping out of the water as they tried to catch up with the boat. My daughter being the typical fact speaking child, after seeing numerous dolphins almost disappointingly said, “ Mummy, this should be called the dolphin watching tour” (as we had seen so many dolphins and yet to see any whales. With this said , as the helmsman turned the speedboat around to return to the marina, we spotted two huge whales! A spectacular sight and one we will cherish forever. The guide (Inês) was fascinating with her knowledge of the species and you could get a sense of how passionate she was about the maritime landscape. A truly memorable experience in a breathtaking and magical location. If we ever return to the island, I would love to experience it with my youngest.
Go, you will like it

Staff was very kind and gave us a lot of information about the aquatic life. Unfortunately we didn’t see any whales but what are you gonna do? That’s wildlife for you.
