Brilliant walking tour to see the city
David W, 26-08-2022
This tour was excellent. We learnt so much about the history of Funchal and Madeira and our tour guide was brilliant. Very friendly, knowledgeable and amenable. Tour lasted around 1hr for us in the end but the guide was keen to do more with us as she said it often takes about half an hour longer! We didn't need to but it was great customer service. Madeira and Funchal is just beautiful and well worth the walking tour to get your bearings and learn lots. Went straight in to D'Oliveira wine Lodge for a wine tasting after, it's right next door and finished our tour off beautifully. Highly recommend and thank you to our brilliant guide.
Great experience!

Julia was a wonderful tour guide and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She was knowledgeable, personable, and brought the history to life.
madeira history

we had a lovely guide from the university , who showed us aroundd parts of the old madeira town , she was friendly and knowledgeable even though she was not native to the island , she still had a lot of love and passion for the island and this showed in her talks about the various historical places we visited , we had a tasting when we returned to the shop of traditional maderian wine , this was made in the area we had visited , which was a nice end to a lovely 2 hour walk .
Learned a lot during this excellent two hour tour

We took this tour during our third visit to Funchal in three years. The tours are conducted by students at Madeira University and Carlos, who took us on our tour, was very knowledgeable about the history of the island and its wine and sugar making heritage. His English was also excellent. He was also, incidentally, the compere and lead singer of the free fado concert heard at the university the following evening. The tours are very good value and you can choose the time you would like to start.

We will be taking more History Tellers tours when we return.

Wine and sugar ?? Tour

We went on this tour as we were interested in the sugar side of things as we could have gone to any of the wine houses otherwise. Guide was very knowledgeable but was unaware that the sugar museum was closed for whole of june, sad that tour were not more closely linked with museum and were not informed of this as learned m thing about sugar industry at all.
